RE: OOPPSS

Sorry to hear about your accident. Having been close to this a few times myself, I know you'll always watch this closely now.
I do get a kick out of a few the responses above, however. Just to confirm, you do not have to go out an buy a new truck because you had this accident! :)
I have been towing 5vers with shortbed trucks for 10 years and have managed to avoid this problem (with one close call). However, my father-in-law battles daily to get his crewcab, longbed in and out of tight parking spots. My shortbed, crewcab fits nicely in my garage, where a longbed would not. Life is full of trade-offs and I think it is silly to insist that a 5ver must be towed with a LB truck. But it does make for some good entertainment.

RE: Where is the water pump

Not sure if this will help with your unit or not but my last two 5vers both had the water pump under the sink, tucked behind the electrical subpanel. Had to remove the entire subpanel to get to the water pump. I ended up cutting an access panel, under the sink to avoid having to remove the subpanel to get access to the pump.
Good luck,

RE: 5TH AIRBORNE HITCH

My instructions stated to load the 5ver and then fill the air pressure until you see the black (horizontal) line on the shock.
Make sure you do this on level ground. My parking spot requires me to get my truck a bit off level and the hitch took 90 psi to get to the black line. After a few miles, it was apparent this was too much. On level ground the pressure was more like 50 psi for me. Your pressure will be different depending on your weight and the location of the air bag.
120 psi is the max pressure for the 5th AB hitch. If you read the instructions, you may have to take out the two bolts that hold the air bag and move it forward or backwards, depending on your hitch weight. You can do this while it is hooked to your 5ver, so you can tune the placement and air pressure when you take your first trip.
Good luck,
Phil B.

RE: Wheel PSI rating check

I am really struggling with the fact that our steel tires cannot withstand 85 psi (plus margin). Steel has to have a shear strength in the tens of thousands of psi. Has anyone been told the weak link and what the manufacturers' testing has revealed? I think some solid explanation from some source could help us all but based upon common principles for metals (and welded joints), I can't get too concerned about this, yet. I wonder if the limitation is based only upon the valve stem type that was installed at the factory (rubber vs. metal)?
My original truck tires were steel and they were good to 80 psi. Yes, they were 16" but that shouldn't matter since we are talking about psi.
Inquiring minds want to know.

RE: Fiver without bunks for kids. Yes or No ?

We have owned 5ver with bunks and our current is without. We made the decision knowing we would have to store away the bedding stuff every day. From my experience, here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
- More interior room for everyone (BIG pro)
- Lots of flexibility in moving or changing sofabeds, dinette's, etc. to fit changing needs
- It is easier for me to tuck the kids in and read and give back massages, etc. The bunks made this difficult.
Cons:
- Young kids stay up later if the parents are doing things in the common area
- If you don't pick the right layout, the fold-out bed could block the entry way or other area (HINT: research this carefully so you do not have to crawl over sleeping kids for the next five years...). - (BIG con)
Good luck. The next 5ver I purchase, I will open the sofabed and walkthru every inch to ensure paths, drawers, doors, etc. are not blocked. If I had it to again, I would still want the 5ver without bunks.

RE: Thread for pictures of double/triple towing rigs!!!

Here is mine. I'm in CA, so it was a major pain to get the Class A (with Doubles Endorsement) to do it legally.

RE: 5th Wheel trailer dollies? Anyone have and use one?

Here is how I "fine tune" my parking. I cannot squeeze my 5ver into my location without the dolly. If you have a straight shot, it would be much simpler to learn to do it with the TV. My set-up is a bit of a hassle but it is a welcome relief when you need it.

RE: Attaching Rack to Main I-Beams

Moe,
You are thinking about this the correct way - distribute the load along as much of the frame as possible and not just off the end of the frame rails. If you are just talking about a bicycle rack, two feet is probably overkill but if you have easy access, why not make it overkill.
I went three feet back and secured in six places along the frame rails with a subframe box. It works great and never any problems. I went overkill but this is how you drive down the road without worrying about everything. I did not weld to the frame but used Grade 8 bolts for all attach points.
Good luck,
Phil B.

RE: Towing double but a little too long

Make sure you are measuring your length correctly. In CA, its the front bumper of the TV to the rear of the trailer. If you have bikes on your front bumper, you do not measure this overhang. If you have a boat as your double, you would not measure the outboard/stern drive, just to the rear of the trailer.
